Home Remedies - Snoring

Snoring is SO annoying to everybody but the snorer. If your wife or husband decides that they need a room of their own, then your snoring is pretty bad, but if the neighbour starts to sell their houses, you have got a serious snoring problem.
Philip Smith, M.D., director of the John Hopkins University Sleep Disorder Center in Baltimore, Maryland, says, "The tissue in the upper airway in the back of the throat relaxes during sleep. When you breathe in , it causes this tissue to vibrate , and that effect is very similar to a wind instrument."
Although many home remedies have been tried over the centuries to alleviate snoring, nothing has ever been found to be totally effective. There are some tried-and-true ways that will help some.
Home Remedy #1: Raise the head of the bed by putting a book under each front post of the bed.
Home Remedy #2: Sleep without a pillow. Raising the head to an unnatural angle increases snoring.
Home Remedy #3: Sleep on your side. Sewing a tennis ball to the back of your pyjama top will cause you to turn your back on your side while you sleep without causing sleep interruption. People do not snore as much or as loudly while sleeping on their sides.
Additional home remedy tips for decreasing snoring are: (1) don't drink alcohol before going to bed; (2) lose weight, because losing weight will decrease snoring that is caused by being overweight; (3) don't take sleeping sedatives; or (4) the annoyed partner can wear earplugs. Snoring is an age-old problem and one that modern medicine is attempting to deal with.
